Updates/Information for Healthcare Providers on Coronavirus (Covid-19)

Updated: Jun 20

The work you perform as a medical provider is important but may also potentially expose you to risk on a daily basis.  The pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) while still in the early phases in this country is undoubtedly a matter of concern for medical providers like yourself as the work you do has the potential to put your own health at risk.  According to the CDC those individuals most at risk from getting sick from this illness includes Older Adults, and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like: Heart disease, Diabetes, or Lung disease.  We at Ascend Medical are not only concerned for the patients you treat but we are concerned for your safety and well-being as well.   To help we have attached a number of common questions about Corvid-19 as well as website links to help you as a medical provider to be well informed and what steps you should take to protect yourself.

Should I be concerned with flying and what steps are being taken to assure safety?

The major airlines have each put additional safety precautions in place to help guard your safety (see links below).  If despite these precautious you are still concerned with flying, we can discuss the feasibility of your securing a rental car to get to your required destination.

Is coronavirus (COVID-19) testing required prior to starting an assignment?

Not unless you are exhibiting symptoms, or the facility requires testing.

What should I do if I believe I may have become infected with the virus?

We are currently instructing all of our providers that if they develop symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (fever, cough, or difficulty breathing), that they should not report to work, and that they should contact their onsite supervisors as well as their Ascend Medical Representative Immediately. In addition, we are encouraging you to familiarize yourselves with the CDC educational links attached below.

What can I do to protect myself while on assignment?

Each individual healthcare facility should have safety protocols put in place that we encourage you to follow.  Please be sure to request this information from them upon your arrival to your assignment.  In addition, the CDC website has released two separate documents geared towards physicians.  The first address tips on how to protect yourself as you care for patients with COVID-19 and the second is a general FAQ on the Virus for physicians. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with both documents.
